Riding a drag lift on skis can sometimes be a challenge if you've never encountered one before. Getting on the elevator can scare you. However, with a little practice and simple steps, you can assemble a T-bar like a pro.

When towing skis, you stand slightly bent on the skis and keep the ski tips parallel and pointing upwards. You should also keep your back upright and straight. Remember that you need to be relaxed in your body most of the time, otherwise you will be exhausted by the time you reach the top. And let the T-bar push you up.

What exactly is a tow lift?

A T-bar, also known as an anchor lift, is a type oftraced backwhich you can find in both initiation tracks and more advanced tracks. Drag lifts are cheaper and easier to maintain thanon telebridgesÖgondolasT-bar lifts are therefore more common on smaller slopes. They are also widespread throughout Europe. With the help of T-bar lifts, skiers can easily get up the mountain. In short, T-Bars are elevators that pull skiers to the top of the mountain.

When you first see them, they seem easy to handle. That's because you don't have to leave the snow. But these elevators can be more complicated than you imagine. While surface lifts make winter sports possible for beginners, they are often a nightmare for many novice skiers. But after a few rides, getting on the elevator shouldn't be a problem.

It's an effective way to move skiers uphill. Although the practice is old, you can still find them in many resorts around the world. Sometimes you can find these old elevators where no new technology has been introduced. Or you can find them in places where the regular chairlift doesn't work.

In contrast to gondolas or chair lifts, the drag lift keeps the skier on the ground and is less sensitive to strong winds. Because T-bars are not affected by strong winds, they are often seen in resorts with high elevations. T-Bars help you reach big terrain without worrying about the wind. In addition, it is a great alternative in many cases due to the security measure. If the lift motor fails, skiers can leave the drag lift and ski down from anywhere.

How do you work?

Although T-Bars are designed to tow two skiers at once, individuals can use them alone. T-bar lifts work in a similar way to chair lifts with rotating cable systems and pylons. But they have a T-bar and a hanging cable that holds skiers and pulls them.

Two riders can stand on each side and ride to the top of the mountain. All you have to do is give in and grab the center post as the drag lift approaches. As the lift pushes you up the hill, lean in slightly. Or you risk crossing your skis and falling.

It can be dangerous and annoying at the same time. Also, you can use this elevator to lift the kids up. Be sure to cross your knees so they can sit back and enjoy the ride. How to ski a T-bar lift

Now that you know what a T-Bar is, let's discuss how to use it effectively. Drag lifts can be intimidating for many novice skiers. But you have to keep in mind that it's not that difficult. So make sure you have to try it several times before you get your hands on it.

Step-by-step instructions are described below. But first you need to understand a few things. Although you can have all the information you want about T-Bars, remember that practice makes perfect. Therefore, it will not be easy for you to deal with until you come to the place and try.

Also, be sure to watch other skiers in line so you can get a good look at them before trying. This way you can watch how it's done and learn the right technique. Here are the steps you can take to use a drag lift in the sky.

  • Approach the queue for the T-Bar elevator and wait your turn to enter the loading area
  • Next, take your hands off the uprights and support them with your other hand, which is outside of the T-bar riser.
  • When it's your turn, gently push yourself into the hold. In most cases there is a lift operator in the loading area who can help you.
  • Slightly turn your head to the inner position of the drag lift, in short, turn your head in the direction you are on the side of the hanger
  • When the bar reaches your position, grab it with your inner hand.
  • If you're alone, place the end of the bar behind your buttocks and allow yourself to pull it up. You may think that going it alone will go wrong, but it goes very well. Some people prefer to travel alone because sometimes it's easier. And if you have someone next to you, just stand on either side.
  • Don't forget to hold yourself while moving uphill. Be careful not to cross your skis along the way.
  • After you reach the top, go down the ramp and let the pole slide away from you.

Despite the steps above, if you fall off the T-Bar, don't worry. Try to get out of the way as quickly as possible. That way you don't drag other skiers with you. Just ski and get out of the way. Take your time, grab another bar and repeat the steps. If someone falls in front of you, take it easy, try to move away so you don't hit them. If the fallen skier doesn't have time to move away from the chairlift, they may have to jump out of the chairlift. They do it, make sure they don't - the bar won't hit the skier in front of you when released.

Safety tips to follow when riding a drag lift:

Although chairlifts have replaced drag lifts in many ski resorts, they can still be found. Therefore, you need to know how to climb safely.

1. Be considerate of other skiers

If someone falls into the chairlift in front of you, you may have to get off. Be humble, anyone can fall.

2. Enter the elevator correctly

As you approach the tail, remove the straps from the pole. When it's your turn, step onto the court and be careful not to get tangled in other people's skis. Keep your hips wide and don't lean forward. The elevator takes you there in a few minutes.

Hold the ski poles in the outside hand and let your upper body lean slightly towards your partner. As the T-bar approaches, reach the inside of your arm and grab it.

3. Take off in style

After grabbing the T-Bar, hold the shaft with your inner hand. You can hold the outer end of the bar with the outside hand holding the bars. However, avoid holding them too tightly as this will make you stiff. Just keep it loose for balance.

Sticking your butt outside or sitting at the bar is not advisable. Let the crossbar pull you from your back. Position the bar from the bottom to the middle of your buttocks. Lean your torso toward your partner, bend your knees, and stand upright. Keep the skis on track without touching each other.

4. Do's and don'ts

Most problems arise when skiers lean outward and their inner skis come into contact with one another. As such, it separates the two. In this case, try leaning your torso toward your partner and squeezing your shoulders. Also, you can widen the outer ski to get the right balance.

When approaching steep spots uphill, lean your body inward and forward slightly. When encountering icy or bumpy tracks, please try to lean and not hold the axle. Also, keep the inner skis apart. And keep an eye on the track.

5. Take precautions when traveling with children

It's good to have kids, but make sure they're on their feet when it's time to take off. They can take their sticks the first few times until they get used to it. If you're skiing alongside a young skier, place the bar behind your thighs.

Even as a small rider you can wear them between your knees. Pick the child up and keep their knees together as the ride begins.

6. Don't get off in a hurry

Don't get off the bar until you get to the top. Standing upright, gently release the bar from your buttocks, synchronize steps with your partner, and let the T-bar roll up the ramp. Clear the area and get out of the way without wasting any more time.

If you're going with a less experienced skier, have them do these steps first. However, if there's a steep or small drop, you'll have to push it in a little more to get loose.
